Paul Petrelli

Paul Petrelli, LL.B, is the President & CEO at Assuris. Mr. Petrelli is passionate about the value of sound financial planning and the critical role of life and health insurers in helping to protect the life, health and wealth of Canadians. He is proud to be part of a dedicated team ensuring the financial security of Canadians.

Mr. Petrelli joined Assuris in 2021, bringing extensive experience from over 20 years in the life and health insurance industry, having held various leadership positions at Sun Life.

Mr. Petrelli was admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada as a member in 1997 and completed his Master of Law degree from the University of Toronto School of Law, specializing in Innovation, Technology and Law.

As President & CEO, Mr. Petrelli is a member of Assuris’ Board of Directors.

Stephanie Greer

Stephanie Greer, FSA, FCIA, Executive Vice President at Assuris, is responsible for ensuring Assuris is ready for the resolution of any member company, leading a team of experts dedicated to identifying solvency risk, preparing for resolution and raising consumer awareness of Canadian policyholder protection.

Since joining Assuris in 2011, Ms. Greer has been actively involved with the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) and l’Autorité des marches financiers (AMF) in ensuring a strong regulatory framework with a focus on early risk identification and readiness for life insurance insolvency issues.

Prior to joining Assuris, Ms. Greer spent 15 years in the life insurance industry, both in consulting and at a large Canadian multinational life insurer.

Ms. Greer graduated from Western University in London, Canada, with a Bachelor of Science. She is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.

Marie-Claire Albanese

Marie-Claire Albanese, B.C.L., LL.B., Ph.D., is the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary at Assuris. She leads the legal function, advises on resolution preparedness, and oversees compliance. She is also responsible for all corporate governance matters pertaining to the Assuris and CompCorp Life Boards of Directors, as well as the Industry Advisory Committee, which is composed of a rotating subset of our member life and health insurance companies.

Adrien Bonhomme

Adrien Bonhomme is the Director, External Relations at Assuris. He is responsible for developing, executing, and evaluating the communication plan. Mr. Bonhomme works on telling Assuris’ story and establishing Assuris’ credibility as the experts in protecting Canadian life and health insurance policyholders and on positioning Assuris as the authority in resolving failed life and health insurance companies in Canada.

Monica Deschamps

Monica Deschamps, CPA, CA, is the Assistant Vice President, Resolution Preparedness at Assuris. She is responsible for leading the development of Assuris’ resolution playbooks and testing exercises to ensure that Assuris is resolution ready. This involves understanding the resolution preparedness risks facing Assuris, and developing the efforts with internal and external stakeholder collaboration to address those risks. Ms. Deschamps is also actively involved in the development of Assuris’ resolution funding tools and strategies to safeguard and protect policyholders.

Lambert Ex-ignotis

Lambert Ex-ignotis is the Vice President, Resolution Analysis at Assuris. He is responsible for analyzing industry-wide and company-specific scenarios that could cause a member company to fail, and coordinating with regulatory authorities during the intervention process. He is also responsible for developing relationships with member companies to prepare resolution planning and understand potential funding obligations, with an emphasis on large or complex member companies. Mr. Ex-ignotis is actively involved with monitoring international and domestic developments, identifying opportunities to advance Assuris views on life insurance resolution framework issues.

Aby Jain

Aby Jain, CPA, is the Vice President, Finance & Administration at Assuris. He is responsible for overseeing all financial operations, Human Resources (HR) and IT initiatives for the organization. He leads a team of professionals to ensure reliable financial reporting and promote innovation. Mr. Jain responsibilities include financial reporting and analysis, budgeting, risk management, cybersecurity, and digital transformation. He is also responsible for developing and implementing HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.

Steve McMahon

Steve McMahon, FSA, FCIA, is the Vice President, Industry Risk at Assuris. He leads the industry risk function and analyzes broad economic and emerging industry-wide risks. He is also responsible for developing Assuris’ views on capital and actuarial policy issues. Mr. McMahon is actively involved with in-depth analysis of the solvency risks of our member life and health insurance companies.
